Courtenay Field And Braedon Garret

Courtenay Field is an up and coming vocalist with a passion for the arts. This dream erupted at the young age of four, when Courtenay joined the “Main Street Theatre Company”. After participating in “Peter Pan” and “Alice in Wonderland”, she realised that her true passion was for singing. She began to take vocal lessons and recorded covers such as ‘I’ll Try’ by Johnatha Brooke and ‘I’ll Be There’ by the Jackson 5.

Courtenay then began to train under Irene Illic studying foreign, classical, broadway, jazz and pop styles. Courtenay entered the Newmarket Voice Festival and the Lions Festival from 2005 – present and received numerous bursaries and best of class awards. She competed at the Celebration of the Arts, was awarded a bursary and was also asked to sing for the Celebration of the Arts launch as one of the accomplished winners. Courtenay has had the privilege of singing at Polo for Heart, Kingfest and Stratford to name a few. While competing, she also takes time to focus on her classical training and is currently working towards her Grade 7 RCM certificate.

Courtenay loves her hometown and has had the honour of singing for many of the town’s functions including the Aurora Civic Awards, Music in the Park, Canada Day Appreciation, Leadership Award Ceremony, Prince of Wales – Municipal Heritage Awards and of course The Aurora Jazz+ Festival! This is Courtenay’s 3rd year at the festival and she looks forward to many more. Courtenay always says “Hard work turns dreams into reality.”

Braedon Garret is a musical talent whose musical repertoire extends beyond his age presumes. From age 4, he studied piano with various musical scholars including the well known “Madoka”, and most recently, piano virtuoso Raymond Lorenzo achieving standards well beyond what some might assume. He then embellished upon his musical vocabulary and studied guitar for 6 years with the exceptional, recognized instructor Daniel Davies. Braedon also studied the art of musical theatre for 3 years with director/performer Jonathan Keith performing lead roles in two of his productions.
Not only is Braedon Garret a solo performer bar none, he has been sought out by budding professionals as competition or band-mates, and novice musicians as a teacher. His repute as an instructor fits well with his stellar playing as he is known to recognize each student’s aptitude and works on a one to one basis, taking the time to applaud the strengths that each student possesses as a base with which to motivate each musician to maximize their ability to be the best they can be. For this reason, Braedon continues to be an in demand multi-instrumental instructor. In addition to the guitar and piano, Braedon is well versed with the bass, drums, saxophone, ukulele, and continues his musical adventure as he is now studying violin, flute, banjo, and mandolin intently to develop his inventory of mastered instruments. This leads many to view him as a prodigy whose articulation of each instrument continues to grow.
